UPDATE
I am now 84 years old and my legs have degraded so that I need a rollator to walk. I live in a first floor flat in a block with no lift so I have made some videos to illustrate how painful and dangerous it is for me to go out.
My home is managed by Silva Homes and owned by Bracknell Forest Council.
I would like you to examine the way that the 'not for profit housing association' is managing the block in which I live and the system of allocating their housing stock.
The bungalow opposite became vacant when the old lady died and I asked Sivla Homes if I could move to that address because of my age, disability and that it would facilitate my continued work as a scientist.
This would be a benefit to everybody but since then another old lady has moved into that bungalow and 3 able-bodied people have moved into bungalows in the same row.
I have been told that housing is allocated on a points system and that I have to compete every time property comes vacant.
I do not know who set up this system but it seems to be extremely inefficient and results in a strange allocation of available accomodation.
Within the block in which I live there is a family of five in number 75 that belongs to the council, a family of three in number73 that has been bought to rent, a care worker in 70 owned by the council, a couple in 72 that they are buying and another couple in 71 that they have bought. That is a total of 14 people in a building built for 6.
The roof space is hardly insulated at all despite building regulations saying that the 2" of fibre glass should be at least 12" deep and there is no wall insulation at all.
I have a solar panel in one of my windows to charge the many batteries Iuas for my computers and accessaries and the south facing roof could easily provide the block with energy to suplement the needs of us residents.
There have been notices stuck on a very small ceramic ornament on a widowsill outside of my flat and a metal framed mirror on the wall next to my door. Please see the attached photos that show that we are being treated like criminals in a prison block and not like customers in our homes. I cannot imagine that your own home and offices in the Houses of Parliament are subject to such contempt.
During a period of my life when I was a police officer I was trained and practiced in fire and rescue services and during my period as an industrial safety officer I was required to be familiar with building regulations.
In my view these notices show ignorance, incompetance and arrogance on behalf of the person who stuck them on my property and I would like you, as my parliamentary representative, to take this matter up with Silva Homes.
